The speed stays at 0 or shows "--"
- Give the app location permission (Android Settings → Apps → NitroHUD → Permissions → Location → Allow only while using the app), and choose Precise.
- Turn on device Location and, on many phones, "Improve location accuracy".
- GPS needs open sky and movement. Indoors, in a garage or standing still, a GPS speedometer reads zero — that is correct behaviour, not a bug.
- The first fix after switching location on can take a minute. The app shows
Acquiring GPS…until then. - Want to see the gauges without driving? Settings → Demo drive runs a clearly-labelled simulated drive.
Why does the speed differ from my car?
Car speedometers are legally required to read at or above true speed and typically over-read by a few percent. GPS measures ground speed and is usually closer to true speed, but it depends on satellite reception — the accuracy figure (GPS ±x m) is shown next to the reading so you can judge it. NitroHUD is not a certified speedometer.
HUD mode
Turn on Mirror, then tap the HUD button in the top bar. Lay the phone flat on the dashboard, screen up, near the base of the windshield. It works best at night, on a clean windshield, with the phone brightness high (Settings → Brightness boost, PRO). Tap anywhere to exit.
Please mount the phone so it does not block your view of the road.
The screen turns off while driving
Settings → Keep screen on. It is on by default; some battery-saver modes override it.
Acceleration timer
Stop the car completely, choose a run, press Arm, then accelerate. Timing comes from GPS speed samples with interpolation between fixes, so it is about ±0.2 s — good for comparing your own runs, not for official figures. Use a closed road or a track.
G-force meter
Mount the phone firmly, stop the car, and press Set forward so the app knows which way the car points. Without calibration the axes follow the phone, not the car.
Trips and export
Start a trip on the Drive tab and stop it when you arrive. Trips shorter than 50 m or 20 s are not saved. Open a saved trip to export it as CSV (speed samples) or GPX (track, opens in most map apps). Trip history and export are PRO features.
